When the Election Commission announced the by-election dates for the Sagardighi Assembly constituency in West Bengal on February 27, political parties were quick to field their candidates. Trinamool Congress fielded local leader Debashish Banerjee and BJP nominated Dilip Saha.
As the closing date for nominations approaches, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, president of the Bengal Pradesh Congress, has written to Biman Bose, president of the Left Front in Bengal, in an attempt to garner support for the Congress candidate in the by-polls. "I request you to direct the district leadership of the Left parties to extend their full political support in favor of our candidate and ensure their active participation in the said elections," Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote to Biman Bose.
The Congressman stated that he firmly believes that if the Left and the Congress can fight unitedly and if the opposition votes are not divided and polarized, the INC candidate will be able to win. "When our aim is to free Bengal from the grip of robbers, thieves and wizards of corruption, we cannot deny the call of the hour that we should fight together to ensure the defeat of the tyrannical and despotic government of West Bengal," wrote Adhir Ranjan. Chowdhury.
